Compression Plating for Non-Union of the Tibia
نویسنده
چکیده
reasons are twofold : firstly, the surgeon's desire for a rigid fixation which will facilitate rapid and certain union, secondly, the patient's preference for early ambulation without the necessity for plaster of paris. In 1932, Albert Key was the first to use compression for arthrodesis of the knee joint in which, after excision of the joint, the cut bone surfaces were compressed against each other. In 1948, John Charnley studied the influence of compression on bone union. In the Bristol Royal Infirmary, intensive research started five years ago on compression plating. One hundred and fifty-four fractures of the tibia have undergone this procedure and no cases of non-union have been found.

Union Following Biological and Rigid Fixations of Distal Tibia Extra-articular Fractures
Background: Distal tibia fractures are among the most common bony injuries, with a significant rate of nonunion anddelayed union. There are multiple methods for the management of distal tibia fractures. Among the plating methods, there are bridge plating and compression plating techniques. There is still a lack of evidence about whether one methodhas a higher rate of union than...

Abstract Background: The tibial diaphyseal fractures are the most common type of long bone fractures encountered by most orthopedic surgeons. In accordance with descriptive indices of tibia fractures on the basis of their location in the bone, distal tibia fractures have the second incidence of all tibia fractures after the middle tibia fractures. The purpose of the study was to asses...

Non-:::union::: is a complication in the management of patients who have a fracture of the tibia. The records of twenty patients who were treated by intramedullary nailing with reaming for non :::union::: of the tibia were reviewed. The fractures had been treated initially by closed reduction and immobilization in a cast, external fixation, fixation by pins in a plaster cast and dynamic comp...
متن کاملOutcome of Distal Both Bone Leg Fractures Fixed by Intramedulary Nail for Fibula & MIPPO in Tibia
Background: Fractures of the distal third of the tibia are mostly associated with a fibular fracture that often requires fixation. The preferred treatment of distal tibial fracture is the minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) procedure. However, there are no clear cut guidelines on fixation of the fibular fracture and currently most orthopedic surgeons use a plate osteo...
متن کاملThe use of combined 3.5 LCP unicortical plate and nail fixation in proximal tibia fractures and prevention of valgus and anterior angulation
Introduction: Intramedullary nailing (IMN) of high tibia fracture has some mechanical and biological advantages over the other form of fixation. However, valgus, apex anterior malalignment and anterior displacement of proximal fragment commonly occur after isolated IMN fixation of proximal high tibia fracture. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of using 3.5-mm locking c...
